The intervention of FIVA (Federation Internationale
des Vechicules Anciens), the international
association for classic cars, in hearing of the
EU Environment Committee in Brussels has been
successful: the use of authentic paint mixtures
containing enamel, nitrocellulose lacquer and
artificial resin for classic cars remains
permitted. The EU had intended to ban these
paints, which are not entirely harmless, and to
specify the use of modern paints for classic
cars as well. Vintage cars can now be retained
in original condition - the EU has decided to
introduce an exemption for restorations and
repairs.
